2007 Foundation of the Children's Shelter Foundation

The founder Ulrike Meister gives up her Health Center in Germany and moves to Thailand Chiang Mai, to work as President and Leader of the CSF foundation for the next 14 years.

With her own funds and by founding a non-profit association in Germany to acquire donations, she also make a large part of the financing of the overall project possible. Little by little, the children's houses, a kitchen, a classroom, a playground and a large organic farm are being built.

Over the years, the initially small children's aid project has become an internationally recognized living and school project for needy children mainly from Northern Thailand and the mountain villages. In 2011 CSF took already care of around 50 children.

Together with her Thai team, Ulrike Meister enables manyThai and Migrant children to have a safe home, schooling, education and a life with educators and teachers and many brothers and sisters in a colorful extended family.

2019 Further development of the Children's Shelter Foundation

Together with a dedicated Thai-German management team, Ulrike Meister enables the Children's Shelter Foundation to take a pioneering position in processes around children's rights, pedagogy and psychology in Thailand.

Guidelines around curative education developed further and the support of the children's personality development is given top priority.

The four-member leader team Ulrike Meister, Regina Röhnelt (Curative Educater), Patchary Lekpimy (General Manager) and Holger Blaschek (Managing Director) are working hard to implement guidelines and policies with the entire CSF.

2022 Networks and pedagogical further education for our caregivers are under development

Together with organizations from our network, we came up with the idea of offering courses and continuing education in a block system for our staff but also for staff from other social organizations and also for prospective parents.

E.g. Parenting, basic knowledge in dealing with children, pedagogical basic knowledge in theory and practice, children's rights, children's diseases, basic knowledge ADHD-Depression-Autism, prevention of bullying and grooming and other topics.

We are currently in the development phase of this training project. If you are interested in it and would like more information about it, have suggestions or maybe even would like to collaborate with us, we would be happy if you contact us.

 Our Family

CSF provides a safe and loving home

with living quarters for children and young people, living rooms and dormitories, a large kitchen, a lounge area, playground, organic garden, hen house, dogs, cats and plenty of space

for activities.

Personal development, learning by heart and learning for life within the security of an extended family take centre stage.

The big ones help the little ones and each child has a "buddy", i.e. a big brother or a big sister who, along with the care workers, takes special care of this child.

Everyone mucks in with everyday tasks. This is how even the smallest children learn how to cook, wash clothes, grow organic vegetables or look after the chickens.

Carers and teachers live with the children and young people in the project and are mother and father to the younger ones and trusted confidants and companions for the older ones.

Education

School classes 1 - 6

Our children are taught individually according to their emotional needs and levels of achievement in our own classroom or in the nearby school. Many of our children need to learn the Thai  language first and catch up on their schooling because they have never attended school.

School, Training, College and University

Our children and young people receive education according to their abilities and needs.

We try to support every child in their individual way.

At weekend the young people have the opportunity to try out different areas of work and to gain their first work experience in the practical placement in the project they have chosen themselves. For their help we give them a small allowance on top of their pocket money.

Classroom without walls

For all children and young people there are joint workshops and additional classes, in order to provide a comprehensive general education. Most teaching at CSF takes place not in the classroom, but outdoors.

Arithmetic, biology and geography suddenly come alive, and are tangible and exciting.

In accordance with the slogan "Classroom without Walls", young people work out the quantities of crops grown in the organic garden, keep chickens in a way appropriate to the species, write poems on signs in Thai and English and draw world maps in the sand.

In addition, a wide variety of courses are available and certificates can be gained.

Art, Hip-Hop, zumba, yoga, guitar lessons, first aid, composting & EM, baking, cooking, massage, languages, personality training, theatre, bike workshop, building and repairing, traditional dance, sewing and much more.
